Pet of the Month for May 2020

This is Romeo! Romeo came in with an upset tummy, that was causing quite the GI upset. Dr. Leakey suspected that Romeo would have “HGE” or  hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.  HGE is a general medical term that refers to an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Affected organs include the stomach and intestinal tract. Underlying medical conditions and environmental factors may trigger gastroenteritis. Since Romeo was feeling so sick and not himself, Dr. Leakey made the decision to keep him in the hospital on IV Fluids for 24 hours. With IV fluids Romeo was able to get hydrated, improve his electrolytes , as well as get medications through his IV that would work faster than an oral medication. After an overnight stay , Romeo was back to his spunky self!

Pet of the Month for April 2020

Stella is a 7 year old Labrador that came in for her yearly checkup with Doctor Leakey. It is important to have yearly physical checkups every year to make sure your pet is healthy on the outside and on the inside. These checkups can help discover possible visible or non visible issues that were not noticed a year back. Stella recently turned 7 years old , which is what we consider “senior age”. At this age we like to recommend doing a “Total Health Profile”. The Total Health Profile is a blood work panel that gets sent out to a lab that can help detect issues that are common with older dogs. Diseases like; Thyroid Disease, Kidney Disease, Diabetes, and even more. Stella is still very spunky and isnt letting her new senior status change her puppy like attitude!
